BREAKING NEW (MGN) – THREE TRUCKS TORCHED ON N3 AFTER GUNMEN OPEN FIRE ON DRIVERS
Armed suspects blocked the N3 highway near Vosloorus in Gauteng last night and opened fire on truck drivers in a violent hijacking attempt that left three heavy vehicles completely destroyed.
According to police, the attackers barricaded the road between the R550 and R23 off-ramps, forcing the trucks to stop. When the drivers came to a halt, masked suspects emerged and began shooting at the vehicles. All three drivers managed to escape on foot and were not injured.
After the drivers fled, the gunmen set all three trucks and their cargo alight. The fires burned so intensely that both sides of the N3 had to be closed. Emergency services and ambulances rushed to the scene. Traffic only began moving again early Thursday morning.
Gauteng police have opened cases of attempted murder and malicious damage to property. No arrests have been made yet.
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni condemned the attack, warning that “the lawlessness will not be tolerated and those responsible will be brought to book.”
Police are asking anyone with information to contact them on 08600 10111 or visit their nearest police station.
This is the latest in a series of violent attacks on the N3 corridor, a major route for goods and transport across South Africa. Truck drivers and road users are urged to stay alert and report suspicious activity immediately.
