Following our earlier report on the discovery of a 59-year-old Gauteng businessman found inside a crocodile in the Komati River, Mpumalanga, investigators have now uncovered evidence that suggests this reptile may have claimed more lives than initially believed.

Upon further examination of the crocodile, authorities recovered nearly six pairs of plastic shoes, including Crocs and flip-flops, preserved inside the animal’s stomach. Since synthetic materials do not break down during digestion, investigators believe the footwear may have belonged to previous victims, raising alarming questions about just how many people this crocodile may have taken.

SAPS Captain Johan “Pottie” Potgieter confirmed that the reptile had been tracked from the air over four consecutive days before being secured. He warned that the findings highlight just how active and dangerous crocodiles in the Komati River area truly are, urging the public to exercise extreme caution near the water.

Investigations are continuing as authorities work to identify the origin of the recovered footwear.
